Accordiugly, steiis have been takou to control the bittet northerlies whicli frequently sweej across the floor of the, dock. At the northern end of Ihe dock workmen luive eroeted a tall wooden windbreak whicn will take most of the sting out of the northerlies, and as an added protection the space between the ship's sides aml the dock has been walled in some dis stance astern of tlie damaged portion. This wiil nuike conditions considerably more comfortable for tlie large number of men engaged on tlie repair job during the winter. Outwardly there" has been little apparetrt progress m Ihe repairs just recently because most of tlie work has been going on inside the ship's struc.7 ture, kfost of the temporary wooden pillars wliieli were erected inside to take the weight of the superstructure have been removed and new permaneut ])illars have lieen piit in. Now that the. temporary wooden striicture has been removed better progress is expected on the plating underneath and on the ta-nk tops. '
