Community Centres And State Subsidy
o INVERCARGILL, April 14. The hope that the Community Centre idea would be iucorporated into the national life of New Zealand "as part ot' the national poliey, was expressed by Ihe Alinister of Internai Affairs, ih an address to representatives of variou.s interested organisations today. Mr. r'arry said ihe Government's idea was that Community Centres should be established as war memorials. On sucli projeets the Government was prepared to grant a £ for £ subsidy. When the Mmister was informed that in ln\ ereargill the proposai to h'ave a Community Ceutre as a war memorial, had l)een defeated, but thai plans were well in hand for the establisliment of a Community Centre, he said the Government would have to coixsidor whether it would grant a subsidy for Community Centres that were not war memorials.
