April Meeting Of Otaki Women's Institute

The April meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute was held recently. It was stated that a bus had been booked for the council meeting on April 22 to be hel'd at Te Horo and a full quota of passengers is expected to make the trip. Correspondence was dealt with and the schedule for the Levin Horticultural Show was made available to memters. The schedule of open days at Massey Agricultural College was also received and matters pertaining to the yearly council meeting was 'dealt with. Members were elected to attend the National Federation of W.I. and also the South Wellington Federation. The drama festival is to be held in June the dates being Levin June 18 and 21, Tawa Flat, June 22, Otaki June 23. Entries for the festival close on April 23. An invitation to members was received to attend the Te Horo birth'day on April 14. Card evenings will be started again and will be aranged by Mesdames Meagher and Nicholson and other members. Two saies tables will be conducted in future, one for members crafts and goods, the other for donations of goods for sale for food parcel funds. The Otaki W.I. birthday will be celebrated this year on April 28 with a concert conducted by the drama circle and followed by a dance. The committee are providing san'dwiches for the supper and all members are requested to take a plate of cakes. It was. arranged to have a competition and a donation box at the concert to lielp swell th° fund for food parcels. Winners of the mon^h's competitions were: — Best flower: Mrs. 'Chittick; best shrub: Mrs. Chittick; jam: Mrs. Allen. The competiticns for May are: Best flower, best shrub, bottlled fruit, pikelets and knitted baby's vest. The vests will be given to Corso. Mrs. Allen was elected to the saies table aild Mrs. Dimock as Press eorrespondent. The singing circle under the ba'ton of Mr. Townrow. gave two delightffil -items which were much enjoy°d by all. A question box was an interesting item and the questions asked and the answers given caused some interesting discussions.
