Gangsters Stage Bloody Street Battle

TOKIO, April 5. - One hundred ' thopsand residents of Hamamatsu, on the coast of Tokio, hid in terror last night when about 50 Korean and 50 Japanese gangsters fougnt a» six-hour pitehed battle witn guns and swords in the streets. I'he battle, whieh began on Saturdav nignt with an exchange of snots, reached a elimax on Sunday -when about 100 mwi engaged in bloody street fighting. Residents fied to their homes. bolterl the doors and tumed olt the lights while the streets of llamamatsn rang with shots and shouts. A speeial squad of 100 armed police 'arrived at Hamamatsu before yester daV's fight but this proved insufiicient to Purb the fighting. The battle ettded late last ilight wheii both'sides ivithdrew taking with thetu their dead and wounded. The police believe casualties on both sides were heavy.
