WESTERN ALLIES WILL NOT BE BULLIED
LOXDOX, April 4. Major-Oeneral Xeville Brownjolm, Bi'itish Depnty Military Oovernor, said he believed the Rnssian traffie regnlations were designed to make the western allies' position in Berlin nntenable and demonsfrate to the Germans that the Rnssians had power over the western anthorities. ''The timing Hts in very nieely with the Italian elections. Kranklv I see jio way ont of the impasse nnless the Rnssians take.a more reasonable view. "\Ve are not going to ehange onr view in the present eirenmstane.es. We intend to show that we are not going to be bnllied. " Heneral Brownjohn nevertheless deplored the way a section of the press abroad was "plaving np" the sitnation so as to imply that aetnal battle preparations had begnn. There was nothing in the Rnssian regnlations to snggest that properly doenmented freight for Berlin wonld be stopped. The Rnssians had simply reinested ]>asses for passengers whieh was the same as the sitnation had been since the oeenpation. The British t were willing to present passes to the Rnssian gnards as before bnt eonld not tolerate Rnssians entering Bi'itish military trains to disturb women and children and 23ossibly oi'der tliem off for alleged infraetions. He added that Berlin was no more "a besieged garrison" than it ever had been.
