Otaki Golf Club Opens Its Season
The official opening of the Otaki Golf Club's 1948 season was held on Saturday last, the president, Mr. S. A. Eiiiott, addressing a good attendance and declaring the season open. The ciub has brought back into play three .of the five holes on which play was disco'ntinued during the war years, and with twelve hoies now in play, the congestion •experienced on the links at times last season will be lessened to a great degree. The three new holes — Pines 364 yards, Spoon 189' yards and Olympus 400 yards — add more variety to the course, and after a good fall of' rain has brought on new growth, should be ira. first class order. The remainder of the course, though affected by the drought experienced throughout the district for the past few months, is in excelient condition, and it is anticipated that . a most enjoyable season will ensue. A mixed foursome over twelve holes was played on Saturday, the winners being Mrs. Anderson and R. H. Knight with 58 — 11 — 47, the next best card being returned by Mrs. Rzoska and Z. Gray, 58 — 8 — 50. Ora Sunday and Monday a number of members took advantage of the holidays to familiarise themselves with the course as now laid out over twelve holes, the best score reported being that of E. H. Gray on Monday with 69 — scr. — 69. The men's competitions will com-, mence on Saturday next with a medal round. — Ladies' competitions , will commence on Wednesday, April 7, with an L.G.U. medal round.
