Machine To Increase Cotton Yarn Production
A machine which ensures a 10 to 15 per eent. increase in cotton yarn production has been develop-e-d by British textile research workers. The ' purpose of this machine, called the electrical hygrometer, is to measure the moisture conditiOn of yarn. This job has hitherto been the responsibility of mill operatives. who, however skilful, are not infallible, and a moisture condition above the specifiecl percentage carries the risk of subsequent mildew. The hygrometer measures the moisture content of the, yarn as it comes off the machine, and records it on the mot-or. This enables the operator, by slowing down or speeding up the machine, to ensure that the yarn is coming off with the exact proportion — nine per cent. of the moisture content. , - Besrdes achieving a stepping up in production', the electrical hygrometer ensures a considerable jsavmg in fuel, because the yarn is . not overdried and also less wastage of yarn in storage due to under-drying.
