Transferring Of Anzac Day Holiday

N.Z',R.S.A. has made nunierous representations . to -. • the Government is the provision made in Arbitration Court awards iii the past; whereby when Anzac Day fails on a Sunday a holiday can be transferred to the Monday Or some other day. It was felt by the N.Z.R.S.A. that such a provision was not in keeping with the spirit of the Anzac Day Act, and the matter appears to have now been resolved by an assurance from the Minister of Labour that in practically alL awards of the. Court of Arbitration. where Anzac Day is included in the . list of holidays, the. following clause is inserted: "Should; any :of the above holidays, except Anzac Dav fall on a Sunday, then for the
purp-ose of this award, .it. shall .be obs'erved on the following Monday/' Three years ago .the' Mimster ttiet representatives of the- Federa- ^ tion "of Labour, Shop Assistantu' Union and New Zealand. -Drivers' Federation, as well as representa- > tives of the N>Z.R.S.A, and the f oi- , lowing recommendation was , agreed to by all the parties coricerned: "That any reference to Aiizac Day as a speciai holiday be deleted frOm awards and ihdustriai agreements, and that another .day to' be mutually agreed upon between the parties to each award Or.industrial agreement be "inserted; The effeet of this will be that in future Anzac -Day Will be- observed on the day on .which it actually -falls, and will not be " transf erable " to another day should it fall off a Sunday." •* It was also agreed that as Anzac Day is observable as a Sunday - in accordance with- ihe Anaac Day Act, payments of Sunday rates of pay for work that must be done on that .day should continue. -
