WELLINGTON, Marcn 23. Compared witli recent Nortli Island auctions, the market at the third main Wellington wool sale today showed a definite improvement. Values during the morning were very flrm 011 those ruling at Wanganui last week, and firmer than those at Napier previously. While the market was not nearly as good as at the last Wellington sale when it reached its peak, it appears to be recovering from the setback received at Auckland early ■ this month, and the demand throughout was active and at times keen. The offering totalled 25,808 bales, most of it December-shorn wool that did not open up as weli as usual. Continental mills did much of the buying. Good class ewe wool was worth from 25d to 27d, with a fair amount bringing Within from 226. to- 24d. There was a fair! sprinkling of lambs' wool, the best of which made from 20d to 31d. A feature of the sale was they keen demand for eottea. wool an'd coarse wools suitable for carpet making. They brought at times as much as some of the better. class ewe wool. The clearance up to luncheon was excellent. Up to 40fd was paid for a small line of stylish ewe wool, and a local miil paid 39|d for a iot of Southdown wool. Fancy prices, however, were seldom reached.
