Wanderers Football Club's Jubilee
. , (To ther Editor). • • Sir,— -Ih the published report on' Tuesday of the Shannon*' Football iClub's annual meeting, it was stat- : ed that a letter of congratulation was to be sent to the Wanderers Football Club on reaching its: jubilee year. This statement conveys an entireiy errOneous impression, . as the Wanderers Club was; no.t in existence 50 years ago: . : . There is considerable misconcep--tion over this matter and the jubilee in question concerns only the original Levin Footbali Club. This club functioned for at least six years, possibly longer, and won the championship for the first three seasons. The Wanderers Club was later.formed at Weraroa. • At the beginning of the 1900 season a disagreement among the members of the Levin Club took place and resulted in several prominent players leaving the parent club and later joining Wanderers. Subsequently, to heal this dispute, the amalgamation of the two clubs was arranged. As a compromise the name of the combined team was changed to LevinWanderers. As a member of the 1898 Levin team, I Cah vouch for the accuracy of .this statement, which will be endorsed by the few survivmg members. Yours etc., H. DENTON/ Levin, March 17.
