Welcome Rain, But Not In Horowhenua
Although •' unfortunately the' Horowhenua district miSsed it, welcome rain fell in many parts of the Wellington province yesterday. Although the rain over Wellington was incessant, and at times a downpour, outlying districts i like the Hutt Valley and west coast north of Plimmerton received only a very light f all. ; The rain has set in all along the east coast of the North Island from Gisborne south wards. In some districts it has been raining continuously for two days, and the forecast is that considerably more "rain has yet to fallV 1 • Fairly steady rain fell throughout the Hastings district during the last 48 hours, breakihg the lohg spell of fine warpi weather. The pastures and gardens , have been greatly refreshed and hack country farmers in particular are beipg pleased at the welcome rain, The weather wa's still showery yesterday with the outiook for further raiii. ' The. drought in the .Wairarapa was broken with rainfall measuring from 67. points to one and a-half incbes in 24' hours. Drizzling rain continues. The weather forecast today hoMs out some hope for the Horowhenua fand Manawatu districts in the next few days.
