Night Watchman For Levin Again Discussed

.. .. . a m ■ ■ » Taking its plap to inaugurate a night watchman service for Levin s business^ area a further step, the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce forwarded a letter to the Levin Borough Council in which the scheme was outlined, together with the suggestion that the council take over the employment and control of the watchman, as the chamber eonsidered that he would have more offlcial standing if incorporated in the borough staff. The question of the employment of a night watchman was raised at the annual meeting Qf the chamber last week, and was very fav--* ourably received by members. At the mohthly meeting of the council last night the suggestion was discussed and resulted in much favourable suppprt from the counciliors. The man the .chamber had in mind was a returhed servieeman, aged about 40, who had excellent credentials. On the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. D. J. Gardiner, suggesting that the matter be referre'd to the works committee for consideration, Cr. J. Miller expressed the view that as the man in question might get tired bf waiting for a decision, and wiv.h the present manpower shortage be u'ifficult to replace, the discussion be gone on with that nignt. ^The scheme would not cost the eouneil money, added Cr.
