Shannon School Committee Meets

Mr. A. Jeffrey presided over the March meeting of the Shannon School Committee held in the sphool-pn Monday. Also present ?were Messrs. L. j. Bowler (secretary) , F. Bradey, J. Lueinsky, E. Barber, S. Free and Mesdames C. Stern and W. Easton. The headmaster, Mr. F. O. BuHt, also atten'ded. In his report, Mr. Burtt stated that the roll at the end of February stood at 137 boys and 135 girls, making a total of • 272 pupils. During the month of February- the pupils had been taught by'correspondence and the response of most of the parents to the added burden thus thrust upon them had been most- encouraging to the teaching staff: Where the assignments of work had been conscientiously tlone by the pupils the experienee would have proved valuable to them. • As it was impossible to hold - a prize-giving ceremony, the Dux, medal and the Calf Club trophies were delivered personally to the recipients. The school garden prizes and the calf and lamb club and home garden certificates will be given to the pupils upon their return to school.

The Education Department has announce'd that there will be no change in the dates of the terms and vacations as a result of the epidemic precautions and consequently the school will close for term vacation from May 8 to 23 both days inclusivp. It is proposed to hdld a school jtair during the coming month for I J?Ui?0Se ,of raisinS' funds to establish a school library, which is a much felt want in the local school. A meeting of the Parents and leachers Association was attended by approximately 80 members, and W( c °rr espon'd enc e lessons"" and otner problems were discussed.
