R.S.A. Parcel Scheme Has Successful Year
■ ♦ — — - During the. first year ended February 29, 1948, the Levin R-S.A. has seht to Broughton, England, 335 parcels for the total cost of £216 11s 4d. A further 66 parcels will shortly be dispatched, . The scheme is part of a Dbmin-ion-wide move by. returned service associations to' send food parcels to fellow servicemen in Great Britain, and the fLevin association adopted the town of Broughton, England, for this purpose, A special committee was. formed •last year, -headed by' Mr. D. Hair and with Mr. Cofbishley as Secretary . Income from " donations amounted. to £168 10s . 5d, proceeds of a dance £9: 10s, proceeds from a street day £61 6s 3d. and sale of ,goods £82 2s. Tliroughout the .year, a- . very willing and energetic women's group, comprising Mesdames Stack, S. , J. Thompson, A. ' W. 'Parton, Kerr, De Mey, N. ,M. Thomson, F. Fletcher, McLeod, -K. Z.'Lyiich^McLoughlan. L.. M. Hair, C. Bartholomew, H. B. Burdekin, Fulton, J. N. Macdonald and Miss Selby, have "spent many hours packing and dispatching the parcels. At the quarterly general meeting 'of the branch, tribute was paid to the work of this group by Mr. Hair and the president, Mr. N. M. Thomson. , As funds were now getting low, Mr. Thomson called on all preseht to continue to support the scheme, which- was greatly appreciated by the reci'pients of parcels. ■* Prior to the cldsing of the' meetihg a cdllection was -taken- -for -the fund.
