This decision was reached following a lengthy disaussibn at a recent ;meeting of the board, when a letter was received from the Feilding-Oroua Motor Cycle Club seeking permission to conduct a series of Sunday sports meetings on the beach during the next few months. To Visit St. Helena At the invitation of the Imperial Government, Mr. E. W. Sutton, of N.Z. Woolpack and Textiles, Ltd., who is well-known locally, is to visit St. Helena in an advisory capacity in connection with the growing and milling of flax there. He is due to sail about the middle
of this month, aird expects to be away for some months. Mr. Sutton has been connected with the flax industry in this district for many years, and was with Messrs. Ross, Rough and Co. prior to j-oining Woolpack's staff. Bright Cricket Some of the brightest cricket witnessed on the Shannon Domain for many years was played on Saturday afternoon, when the home eleven defeated- Paraparaumu by 193 runs to 120. Brilliant knocks by B. Harri's (88 runs) and A. Seaton, (67) for the home team, and E.' Weggery (52) for the visitors, made the ga'me fast and enjoyable'to Watch. One of the lbcal youngsters, C: Harris, 'bowled an outs'tanding over, taking two1 Paraparaumu wickets for six runs ih his only over of the day. ■ * 1 f 1 ' ' i ' ' * Successful Dance • With; the object of .raising funds to enable a local girls' -marching team' to participate in the North Island Marching Championships at Rotorua shortly, the Shannon committee held a most successful dance in the Druids' H-all last Thursday evening. Although this was the first dance to be held in Shannon this year, the attendahce was not great, visitors from outlying districts making up most of the couples on the floor. • The music was supplied by a professional orchestra, and a most enjoyable supper was supplied by the lady supporters of the teams. The local committee still requires a considerable sum of jHioney to send the team to Rotorua.
