WELLINGTON, March 5. The carpenters ' dispute has been handed over to tlie national. council of the. Federation of Labour, an urgent special meeting of which was held in Wellington today, The council dis.cussed-.the situation for ab.out thfee hours in the nioruing and resolved initially, 011 the motion of Mr. P/'M. Butler, Wellington, to invite the national executive of the New Zealand Carpenters and Joiners' Union to place the dispute ih the hands of the national council. He said that under its constitution,.'tlie federation could only act when requested. Mr. E. S. Collihs, Nelson, seconded Mr. Butler 's motion. When the council re^umed in the afternoon, the 'president of the nnion, .Mr. F. Langley, announced that the national exechtive of the unidn was agreeable to place the dispiite in the Federation council 's hands. The council then heard a review oi' the situation from Mr. R. Stanley, Auckland secretary of the union. The council then resolved that, ' in its! opinion, the union had a just case and .it would support it by every means ih' its power to elleet a satisfaetory settlement of the issues in dispute.
