CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 3. Butchers to-day shunned' the' Ad: dington' market which they have, in efL'eet, deciared, ''blaek" because of the high prie'es wIi&Il- they have to. pay - : at auction. In expectation of the absence of the 1 butchers ' buying, entries of fat lambs, fat shepp and fat cattle were well below norm'al, and the only saies that were made were those to ex-'t porters, and to a few butchers who were buying for institutions. The butchers hope to buy' stock • on the hoof at a scale of prices "which they have frxed fo give them a profit. in relati'on to the 3£xed Tetail prices which they are obliged to eharge. Big entries last week enabled some butchers ,to buy ahead of their immediat'e requirements. Next week when stocks are redueed the publie may have to eope with' meatless days. To-day 's ban on the market was the eulminating point in a long drawn out dispute whieh butchers have had with .the Government. Retail priees were lixed early , in the wai' and were based on wholesaie ■prices then ruling.
