Saunders and her son have arrived home after spen'ding an extended ,holiday in the north. Miss A. Callesen, of Mangaore, has left to take up a new appointment' at Palmerston North. Misses J. and N. Callesen, were weekend visitors to Palmerston North. Mr. Maurice Peach, of the P.W.D. staff at Gisborne, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Peach, Ballance Street. Mrs. Lang of Marton, has been the guest of her daughter and Mrs. W. Martin, both of Stout Street, and has now left to visit her daughter in Foxton. s Mr. T. Atkins of Rotorua, who is returning home from the TipplerCrighton wedding at Invercargill, is spending a few days in Shannon as the guest of Mrs. Crowther, Clapham Street. Painting Municipal Buildings111 The contractor has commenced to paint the municipal buildings. This is the last of Shannon's public buildings to receive attention as the bank, post office and railway station received their brightening up treatment last year. Card Winners There was a very large gathering of players present in Laurvig's Hall last evening for the weekly card evening conducted by the Poutu Maori Pah improvement committee. The prizewinners were Mrs. R. Roberts and Mr. R. Harding. Ladies At Bowls Mesdames Higgie. Tricker, D. Aitchison and Graham (si took part in the one-day women's bowling tournament held at Otaki last week. The local rink was successful in winning its first two games, tied in the third game and were beaten in its last game by four points by the rink who eventually won the tournament. Several rinks from Wellington, Paraparaumu and other nearby clubs were present. Distinguished Visitors To Shannon Representatives from a business firm from Australia and another from a well-known firm in Wellington, were visitors to Shannon last Wednesday 'k'ft^iTiooii5. ! " The Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, entertained them and a thorough survey of local possibilities was made. Photographs of buildings which could be _adapted for his firm's requirements "were taken by the Australian visi•tor, whose interest in Shannon was intensifie'd by the fact that he was born in Foxton. -
