AUCKLAND, Marcli 1. The deJay to Brifish food sliips becau.se o f the present dispute ou tJie Auckland vvaterfrout was descHlied as tragic by Mr. F. F. Ilarmer, of Londou, doputy-chainuau of the New Zcalaiul Shipping Co., Ltd., in an interview. Auckland was now suffcring an inter-, ruption of the nornial working of the port. It arose, he nnderstood, out ot a dispute over certain individual ships wilh which he was not concerned, ani on the nierits of which he did not want to express an opinion. "Its effocts, however, are felt by all ships working in the port," he said. " The practical eonsequence to tlie people of Britain will be that ship-. ments of dairy produce and nieat will be seriously reduccd or delaycd. "Britain looks to New Zealand for a large part of her supplies'of dairy produce, and we as shipowners have becn aslced to make it our first dutv to lift as much as we can and as quicklv as we can to maintain the present modest scale of rations at Home. We have done our paj't, and we lcnow that New Zealand is anxious to give all the hclp she can. "It is really tragie that in eonsequence of this position ships shoulcl be idle in the stream or be delayed in carrying Home these essential cargoes. " .
