Bowling Tournament At Otaki Railway
In per'fect weather and on a perfect green, 19 rinks, embracmg players from Palmerston to Wellington took part in .a tournament at the weekend; on the Railway sr66n* Three rinks secure'd the whole of four games. They w6re: Messrs. Symonds (Otaki Railway), Taylor (Manawatu) and Stone (petone Central) . Taylor and Stone met m a two-head game, the former proving vietorious by two points to one, while in the play-off, Taylor met Symonds, (Otaki Railway). Symonds scored no less than five on the first head, which, it .was thgught, would give him the trophies, but on the second head Taylor scored ffve, while on the final head he sco-red another five to win. It was an exciting and very interesting finish. In the last head the kitty was carried back and well hidden among back bowls, and although Symonds' club mates endeavoured to break up the head they found this impossible. Players with Taylor were Messrs. Matthews, Mclndoe, and Brace, while Symonds was supported by Watts and A. D. and T. Webster. All played excellent bowls. ResultS were: Messrs. Pennant Bowls In the pennant game between Otaki Railway and Paekakariki at Otaki Railway on Saturday, the home ' rinks won both games, Messrs. Watt, Hart, Booth, Webster (s) 22, beat Gilbert's rink, 15; Messrs. Rich, Hannah, Connor, Symoryis (s) 21,. beat Blyth's rink, In the pennants games, played on the Otaki Club's green on Saturday, Plimmerton beat the local team in both games. . Barlow, Brailsford, Livingstone and Chapman (s) 17 beat Gow, Evans, Winterburn and Robertson (s) 15; Dodson, Mildenhall, Cumberworth and Chapman (s) 23, beat Jensen, D. Noble, Bar'ron, and Temuera (s) 7. •* LADIES' MATCHES In the recent tournament at Otaki Railway, the winning rink was skipped by Mrs. Lewis and the runners-up by Mrs. Henderson. Mes'dames Lewis and Henderson each won four games, Mrs. Hurworth (Kilbirnie) 3, Mrs.' Graham (Shannon) 2-£, Mrs. Munro (Woburn) 2h Mrs. Palmer (Eastbourne) K-, Mrs. Battersby (Eastbourne) and Mrs. Mathie (Otaki) nil.
