V WELLINGTON, Feb. 29. The appearance of thc Auckland Ovnipic Games prospects, J. Holland and .1. Grierson, and the Waikato miler, A. Marsliall, was Ihe lnain attraction of the graded scratch athletic meeting at Hataitai on Saturday. All wou their event.s coinfortably and were glad of the opportunity to limber up before continuing tlieir jouruey to Dunedin for the national championships. Holland, who is regarded as the Olympic prospect for the 440 yards luirdles, rau a slnart 440 yards flat in 50.6sec. ' Marshall was never troubled -to takc the mile in 4inin 27.4sec. The least impressive of th.8 trio was Grierson who appeared to be suiTering from staleness. In the 880tyds he won by 10 yards from the local atlilete, Dunklev, in linin 59.7sec. The pentatlvlon event consisting ° of long jump, javelin ■ tlirow, 220 yards, discus throw and oue mile, was won by G. Barnard with ap average of thiTd place. With a strong assisting wind, Miss P. Flelcher returued 12sec in the 80 uietres hurdles, one-fifth 'of a second below Miss N. Gourley's New Zealand record. No record will be claimed.
