Person 3.1 * Mr. Frew, a well-known resi'dent of Rangiuru, shortly celebrates his '90th birthday. Mrs, W. H. TownrOw is at present .on hoiiday in Dunedin. She ma"de the journey by plane. Mr. and - Mrs, Frank Shaw, who have been on hoiiday in Auckland, •have returned to Otaki. During the hoiiday Mrs. Shaw paid a visit to Rotorua. Mr. A. C. Tricker, for a long time a member of the New Zealand Railways staif at Waipukurau and formerly of Featherston, was fare.welled and presented with a goldmounted fountain pen. Mr. and Mrs. Tricker will in future reside at Waikanae Beach. ' The death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospitai on Saturday night of Mrs. Jack Johnson, a ;well-known and highly respected resident of the district, who has resided in Otaki for many years. Mrs. Johnson only entered the hospitai a few days ago. Her husband aird a grown up family of four sons and one daughter, are left to mourn their loss. Local Athletics A meeting of the committee of the Otaki A.A. and C. Club will be held on Thursday night., Preparing For Football Arrangements are being made in connection with football in Otaki and a meeting of the committee of the Otaki Club will be held tonight. Fire At Railway A fire which might have done •considerable damage, but checked m its early stage, broke out at the 'Railway dining rooms during last weekend, with the resuit that slight ■damage only was done. Rare Coin A copper coin, dated 1855, with a heading "Van Dieman's Land" and on the reverse si'de "New Town Toll Ga,te — ^B. Joseph," has been brought to this office, and the owner desires to know its worth. Bowling Tourney The tournament to be held on Saturday, March 6, for trophies donated by Mr. Delmonte, will be for members of the Otaki Club only, and not for outsiders as previously announced. The tournament on March 7 will be opn to members of any club. £5600 For Otaki Health Camp The current series of nealth stamps were withdrawn from sale on Saturday. Throughout the Dominion, about £105,000 worth of the stamps have been sold since the campaign began on October 1. A ttiird of this sum will be used to assist children's health camps throughout the country. The postmaster at the General Post Office, Mr. E. J. Smith, said that nearly £17,000 worth of health stambs had been sold in the Wellington district, a record for anv district in New Zealand. As a resuit of these saies about £5600 would be made available to the -Otaki Health Camp. The best saies area in the Wellington district was Eastbomne, whe're each house field oought an •average of 6s wovch of the stamps.
