' NAPIER, Feb. 22. Jirn Williams (llawlce 's Bay-Povertv Ba_v) won the half-mile New Zealand grass traclc cycling ehampionship under ideal conditions • at McLean Park, Napier, on Saturday. The title-liolder, ' G. Hughes (Auckland) was third. Tlie mile knal was deelared no race because of tlie slow time and eollusion in the back stralghfc. Hughes, who also bolds tliis title, was first past the post. The race is to be re-run. Senior SS0 yards: J. Williams (llawke's Bay-Poverty Bay) 1, A. Allen (West Coast, North lsland) 2, G. Hughes (Auckland) 3. Time lmin. 12 sees. Williams led all the last lajp and won by just over a length with Ilughes a short length back third. Junior 880 yards: G. Toliey (Auckland) 1, L. B. .Cogle (Auckland) 2, W Debney (West Coast, North lsland) 3. Time, liuin.. 5secs.' Cogle came witli a late run in the straight but failed by half . a le'ngth to catch Tolley, with Debney a length away third. 1 „
