Ratepayers' Association On Rating Problems

The rating system of the Shannon. borough • came. forward for corisiderable discussion at the quarterly meeting of the Shannon Ratepayers' Association held in Laurvig's Hall on Tuesday night. A motion was moved by Mr. L. G. Sayer, to the eff ect that owing to the dissatisfaction of the present. rating system - ih- the , borough, the association invite aii expert on the unimproved systeme of rating to outline. that system to the ratepayers of the town. It was pointed out that in fairness to thehratepayers,' both systems should be outlined by persons conversant with the systems. Mr. Sh.yer agreed to this and the motion was carried. It was left in the, hands of the secretary, Mr. B. Clayton, and '(Messrs. Sayer and R. R. Lind to arrange suitable dates .with the persons concerned. . Although there was considerable argument put forward in support of the present system, that of rating on the capital value, and also on the unimproved system, the discussion was a repetition of that which came before the last meeting of the association in November. __________ __
