MINISTER ANNOUNCES WHAT VARIOUS USERS WILL RECEIVE - ,

DUNEDIN, February 19. The basic rations of petrnl-for the -various elasses of user were announeed today by the Minister oi' Supply, the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer. # t . "These basic rations,'^ said the Minister, "will be granted automatically to all elasses of users who can satisfy the local oil fuel controllers that they are engaged in the type of business specified, and recjuire petrol to, carry o-n their business. ; .
"As previously mentioned," said the Minister, "it" was hoped that mers would endeavour to get along on the' basic ration, but it was r'ealised"that this would not .be possible in all cases. There was, therefore, the right of appeal to the Oil Fuel Controller for supplementary rations in cases where the additional supplies were essential • to enable- the user »to carry on his business. These appeals should. oe made concisely in writing to'the local controller, who will submit them to the Oil Fuel Controller for a decision. His decisions would be referred back to the local controller, who would advise the appel.ant and issue any additional licenses necessary. "The list covers the , large majority of users of petrol, but there will be a limited number to whom petrol is essential,, and who do not appear on the list. These people should lodge applications for their requirements, and these applications wil be considered on their merits. "Workers requiring petrol to enable them to travel to and from Their work, because o'f a la'ck of iuitable transport facilities, should make application for licenses to the sub-district oil fuel controllers, who will arrange for these to be considered in groups and the necessary petrol made available. "I would like to emphasise," quoted the Minister, "the desiraoility of all users concerned lodging Jieir applications as promptly as possible in order that there will be no hol'd-up through • laek of the necessary licenses on March I. Applications may be lodged as from Monday, February 23. "In ca'ses where a light truck is also used, as wotild a private motor-car, ' coupo'ns will be issued over ,and above the business allocation." - i Tne basic rations for the dif- 1 ferent elasses of motor-vehicles and usage, in gallons per month, are: — • Private motor-cars (coupons) : Under 9.5 ht.p., 6; 9.5 h.p. to 14.5 h.p., 9; over 14,5 h.p., 12; motorcycles, 3. , ; Business cars (these cars will also receive ordinary coupons) : Manufacturers, 10; company execu-

Cases not included in ..this hst will be considered on their merits, The gallons per month for rental cars are: Under 9.5 h.p., 30; 9.5 to 14.5 h.p., 40; over 14.5 h.p., 50. Taxis ^and private hire: Single shift, 125; double shift, 200. Trucks with "L" plates: Farmers, 15; fruiterers, 15; motor tnade, 15; builders, 30; painters, 20; bricklayers, 20; retailers, 20; grocers, 20; butchers, 25; wood and coal distribution, 30; plumbers, 30; miik ? vendors, 45. Trucks with "H" plates: Motor trade, 20; farmers, 30; retail distribution services, 35; wholesale distribution services, 35; builders, 35; manufacturers, 45; sawmilhng, 65; dairy companies, 100; carriers, town 80, country, 120. Cases not included in this list will be considered on thelf merits. Public passenger serviceS .. and qmnibus and service car ratio"tt\ is to be fixed by the Oil Fuel ControK ler. Dealers' cars will get 20. Local body vehicles are to be fixed by the 011 Fuel Controller; Government vehicles by the Oil Fuel Controller; non-motor vehicle use on farms by the Department of Agriculture; fishing by the Marine Department; pleasure launches and auxiliary yachts (water line length) , up to and ineluding 13 feet 4, over 13 feet and ineluding 25 feet 8, over 25 feet and ineluding 30 feet 16, over' 30 feet and includings 35 feet 24, over 35 feet 32; boats* using outboard motorS, up to and mcludipg 5 h.p. 4, over 5 h.p. 8; in motor garages, 10. - 0
