Popular Sportsman Given Social Evening
Fellow members of the local badmintoii'and cricket clubs gathered in the Druids' Hall on Monday night to wish one of their fellow members, Mr. V. E. Tippler, every happiness in his forthcoming marriage. Both clubs were well represented as well as a number of visitors from kindred clubs from outside towns. The earlier part of the evening was taken up with the playing -of badminton and tabletennis aii'd following the serving of supper by the lady members of the badminton club, Mr. Lester Burling, president of the badminton club, took the opportunity of expressing the' good wi^hes of his fellow members to Mr. Tippler. Mr. Burling stated' that ■ 'Vic," as h# is better known among his friends, was one of the foundation members of the club, and was always a willing worker in the interests of the club. His organisation of the arinual badminton dances has helped in no small way in making the functions outstanding successes. He has been responsible in many fespects for placing the club in its present very sound position. Mr. Burling went on to "say that the club was fortunate in that Mr. Tippler will be making his future home in Shannon, and it is the sinoere wish of every badminton cluh member that Mr. and Mrs. Tippler will spend many years as members of the club. Mr. Burling then called upon Mr. Tippler to accept a dinner wagon as a small mark of appreciation from his fellow mem-
■ bers. Speaking on behalf of the cricket club, Mr. T. Roach mentioned the work done by Mr. Tippler in the interests of the club. He has always been a willing worker and the cricket club sineerely hope that he will be a member of the club for many years yet. Mr. Roach then- called upon Mr. Tippler to accept a crystal vase from the members of the cricket club. In his brief reply, Mr. Tippler extended his sincere thanks to the members of the both clubs for arranging the evening and for the most useful and most delightful gifts. He felt sure that he would be associated with the clubs in the future. Mr. Tippler will be leaving for Invercargill at the end of the present week, and his many friends in this town will wish him every success in the future.
