War Wounded Entertained At Waikanae Beach
On Saturday about 50 war wounded, amputees, nurses, and red cross drivers, were entertained for the 'day by the Waikanae Beach Bowling Club. The matron of Hobson Street Hospital,; accompanied the> visitors. It was a splendid day without a cloud in the sky and the visitors had a swim as soon as they arrived at the Beach. There followed at 12,30 a 'delightful lunch with everything from *vegetable salad to fruit salad and trifle; a highly enjoyable meal which had been v/illingly prepared by the ladies of the Bowling Club. After lunch the wliole party moved up to the bowling green where those who were able, played until 4 p.rri., when afternoon tea was provided-, and Mr. J. Williams, president, welcomed the visitors and announced that the club hopsd to see the visitors every year in future as it had been decided to make it an annual event. One of the patients expressed his appreciation of the warm welcome extended to them and the senior sister, of the Wellington Hospital, presented "to the club, for competition, a beautifully embossed tobacco jar, the work of war wounded. Sister Mowbray, on behalf of the Red Cross Society, welcomed the visitors to the beach. The visitors d,eparted at about 5 p.m., after a thoroughly enjoyable day.
