TIMARU, Feb. 15. In glorious sunshine and on a court that piayed fast and true, tlie Australian tennis team comprising Geoff Brown, J. Dart aud Misses M. Bevis and M. Toomey, gave an excellent exhibition before a crowd of about 1000 at Maori Park today. The team as a whole piayed an all-court game, the pace and accuracy of their sliots delighting the onlookers. Brown, who ranked No. 8 on the world 's list, thrilled the speetators • with the speed of his service which is regarded as one of the fastest in the world. Dart pro-4 duced 'his strokes fluently even against the tornado-Jike fury of Brown 's game. The Australian women piayed with inueh vigour and impressed with their range of strokes which were as wfide in c'ompass as tliat of the men. Besults: — ^Brown beat Dart 6 — 2. 6 — 2; Dart and Brown beat W. J. Smith and B. Howe, of Canterbury, 6 — 0; Brown and Smith beat Dart and Howe 6 — 4; Miss Toomey beat Miss Bevis 10 — 8; BroWn and Aliss Bevis were a set all with „Daft and Miss Toomey 6 — 4, 4 — 6; M. J. Souter beat W. J. Smith 6 — 5.
