AUCKLAND, Feb. 14. "Could the couucil inquire into the frequency of the mail service to Havaua?" said Mr. G. J. Browne amidst luughter at a lueeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber oi Commerce this morning, when the mails were under discussion. Importers had not yet been int'onued of the allocatiou of licences for the coming year, and with the time it took to get a reply to correspondence from Wellington letters could go twice around the world, he added. Hence it might be quicker to deal with Mr. Nash directly. "I don't know wliether this has- got anytliing to do with the Ilavana trip, but the North Americah telephone service was recentlv discontinued, " said Mr. F. J. Jolinstone. (Reueweti laughter. ) The Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, has been in Havana, Cuba, attending the United Nations conference on trade and emplovment.
