Sporting Activities Of The R.S.A. Discussed
— — — — - -- Disappointment that there wa& not a closer liaison between the R.S.A. and those of the branch's members who were' inter-ested in-. sport was expressed by Mr. Cv E Wiseley at Wednes'day - night?s meeting of the executive. He was reporting on a recent cricket match arranged With the Palmerston North R.S.A. and held'in Levin. He had been instructed by the executive to arrange the match, but had .found great difficulty in 'get-. ti'ng a team, said Mr. Wiseley. He had eventually to make up his team from cricketers he khew, some of whom were not R.S.A. members-. After the. match some members of the branch who were cricketers had co'mplained that they were not ■invited. Had he known of them he would have certainly welcomed them. The Palmerston North team were anxious to play a return game at Palmerston North, but after- the last experience he had hesitated to commit himself. In his search for a team he had also discovered that the bowling committee had arranged a game for the same day as. the cricket match, and some who would have played cricket were playing bowis. He thought that some better arrangements co.uld have been made to avoid, such clashes in functions. -
Commenting, the president, Mr. N. M. Thomson, said that Mr. Wiseley's difficulties were appreciated. He himself had not known of the bowling committee's function. However, a soeial committee was being formed and the arranging of spprting functions would be incorporated in itS; activities. He agreed that fuller publicity should be given *to the sporting functions so that members would know that they were taking place. After further discussion it was requested of-Mr. Wiseley that he arrange .. the return ; matcli with Palmerston North. It was decided that ,a tcricket match be arranged with the Kelburn R.S.A. at Levin on February 29. ■ Games with Palmerston North and Upper Hutt are also to be organised. Soeial Committee Answering an invitation from the executive to form a soeial committee, Messrs. P. Young and R. Mai-' colmson were pr-esent and indicat-i ed that they- would - be only top' p-leased to form such a committee, as they. considered there was a great need for the furtherance of the soeial side of the R.S.A. in Levin. They intended that the committee comprise six, with power to add to their number. They stated that they hoped to have the I conimitt.ee functioning in the near ! future. [. Foiiowing dtscussion, it was dei cided that- a grant of •£10-. would be ( made to the .committee to cover I ipitial expences. On the suggestion jof the two appointed to form the committee, it was decided that the women "members of the R.S.A. be written to, with the. suggestion that two or three of their number be their representatives on the committee. . - - - Mr. Thomson expressed the appreciation of the executive. of tlie action so far taken by Messrs, | Youhg and Maicolmson towards the extension of the soeial side of the branch. ... ■ - , v, ' -fc- ' ' .
