Claim For Possession Of House
^ * A claim for possession of a house at Raumati Beach and £21 arrears of rent was heard in the Magistrate's Court, Otaki, yesterday by Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M. ' Plaintiff was D. Quilligan and defendant E. Bates. . . Plaintiff stated that he was a contractor and lived a good deal of his time at Raumati South, where he owned a cottage which he had furnished at a cost of betwe'en £200 and £300. He had let the pldce •to defendant, who had assured him that he only wanted it for a short period,, about six weeks, as he would then have another place. Plaintiff said he had built'the house to live in., and not to let, and had ; given Bates notice to quit in November. Bates was in arrear vfith his rent and the place was not being pr-pperly cared for. He was at present baching at Johnsonville, living alone, and he wanted ; the house for himself . Bates told the court that he had offered the rent, which l>ad' been refused. He had been told' to go to plaintiff's lawyer. He was in a position to pay the rent and was willing to do so. He had- a wife and five children. There were two bedrooms in the house and a living room, while plaintiff had one room locfeed up for his own'use, If plaintiff's claim succeeded he wouldi have nowhere to go. The, magistrate said it would bei difficult to make an order for possession. He adjourned the case until the ris.ing of the court, i expressmg the hope that the parties might reach a • settlement themselves. This had a successfui outcome. •
