Big Cheques Figure In Fraud Charges
NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 11. Allegations that a salesman of 1 Oriental Parade, Wellington, Eoliert j Emmett Burrowes, obtflined a clieque j for £1000 from William Abraham, I funeral direetor, New Plymofith; and a I .clieque for -£200 from Rex. Carrington ■ Brewster, mgdical practiti'oner, New I Plymouth, by false representation, wero heard in the New Plymouth Court to-3a.y-0 Burrowes, pleaded- not 'guilty and was eommitted for trial in the Supreme Court. Bail was flxed at £500. The charges were that on October 31, 1947, at New Plymouth, with intent to defraud. Burrowes obtained ka cheque for £200 from Brewster by falsely re- | presenting that H. M. ' .Tolson, of | Jolson's Ngawha Springs and spa, was i chairman of directors of Art Mo'dels i (N.Z.) Ltd. and that the clieque was to ! Phy for patent rights of a model known | as "Lady of Lqurdes"1 which Art i Mqdels "(N.Z.) Ltd. had aequired.
