W EDLIN GTON, Feb. 9. The second Wellington main sale of the 1947-48 season commenced today when catalogues totalling 20,760 bales were submitted to a full and representative beuch of Imyer.s, states the ofticial report. This is tlie iirst portion of a 89,200 bale sale, ihe balance of whieh is to be oll'ered nu Thursday. . The offering consisted of wools from the "Wairarapa, klanawatu, Eangitikei and Southern Hawke's Bay district.s and also a small portion of Nelson and Bounds wool. Most of the wooi opened up attraetively and was keenly sought after by buyers. Competition was excep'tionally keen from the Coutinent and all Wools met with strong competition from tliirS seetion with local mills operating ireeiy on liner qualities. Competition was keen for average wools for which all sections of the trade were operating. The oliieial range of priees: Southdown, 08/00 's: Good to super 42 id to 45d, average 37d to 42d, inferior up to 36d. Fine cr.ossbred, 50,'s: Good to super 29 ld to 34d, average 26d to 29d, inferior 20d to 25fd. Medi,um crossbred, 46/50 's: Good to super 28(1 to 80 id,. average 26d to 27|d, inferior 22d to 24id.Strong crossbred, 40/46 's: Average up to 27id. , Lincoln: Average 26d to 28d. Fine cross hogget, 50/54 's: Good to super up to 001d, average 27d to 29d. Fine cross hogget (shorn), 50/54 's: Good to super 33d to 38d, average 27d to 31d. , Medium cross hogget, 46/50 's: Good to super 29d. to 30 d, average 26id to 2SJd. Lambs, crossbred: Good to super 33d to 38d, average 2Sd to 324d, inferior and secdy up to 23id. Pieces, crossbred: Good to super 22d to 24d, average. up to 214d. Bellies, crossbred: Good to super 20j;d to 22d, average 18d to 20d. Crutchings, crossbred: Good to supet 22U1 to 25d, average 17d to 201d, inferior and seedy 12d to 14d. Locks: Crossbred 12d to 15d.
