The final state of ihe part-ies in the Eire general election (ajiart from the Carlovv polling on February 10) is as follows:— Fianna Fail . 015 - Fiii(> (lael : 29 Labour 14 Independents 12 New Republieans .. .k .. .. 10 Farmers . . . . 7 National Labour 4 Alr. de Valera has thus lost his 9,varall majority and niust now eitlier fort" a minority Government or enter inti: f,ome coalition arrangement although h has declared he would not tolerate ti coalition Government. Reuter rejiorts that whatever the re sult of the Carlow polling, Alr. dt Valera- will not liave an indopendenl' working majority when the Dail meets on February 18. The Fianna Fail is expected to win two of the five Carlow seats which would leave Alr. de Valera six sliort for the 74 seats he requires It is extremely probable Air. de Valera will carry on for a sliort time and there then .vill be another general election.
