Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. WASHIN GTON, Feb. 3. Dramatic trace's of Sir * Ernest Shackleton 's historic 1915-17 Antaretie expedition — an Australian newspaper, two fiiagazines, nauticai almanacs, tins of fruit perfeetly preserved iii the' freezing climate— have been unearthed by the United States* Navy's current Antaretie expedition, it was learned today. ,j -In the first visit for "31 years to an isolated board hut in McMurdo Sound,, a beach party from the Navy' ieebreaker Fdisto also found a type-' written note dated attd signed by John. King Davis, master of the reiief ship Aurora, naming seven men who were "found all well." The note added: "We learned on arrivai that the Rev. U. P. Spencer-Smith died of seurvy on the barrier 9/3/17. Captain Mackintosh and U. G. Hayward perished on 8/5/16 in a blizzard while ' attempting to cross crevasses from Hut Point to Cape Evans. The Aurora will leave McMurdo Sound during this week for Wellington, proceeding northwards past and in sight bf Cape Adare if ice conditions permit."
