Work At Home For Shannon School Pupils
(To. the- Editor) Sir, — -Through the courtesy of Mr. T. S. Downes, who has placed his time and duplicating equipment at the disposal of the Shannon School, it is possible to begin correspondence' lessons this week. We are grateful to "The Chronicle" for an offer to- provide space at any time for school work, and if we have anything of importance to advise, it will be .through that medium. . It is very desirable that the correspondence work be 'done neatly and expeditiously, and be posted or delivered by adults to the school for correction. There will be enough work set to occupy the children for some hours daily. They require, a quiet and airy place in which 'to work, "and where several children are working together some supervision may be necessary. The important side of the -work of the younger primer pupils is ■ reading, and books for them may be collected from the infant mistress at the school. The older pupils could quite well hear them read and give assistance in word recognition. When the Education Department lessons arrive during the next tortnight the children shbuld work on a strict time-table, giving eertain times to the subjects daily. It ifi necessary to enrol new pupils (including five-year-olds)' immediately, so that the school roll can be established. Pupils should, where possible, listen to the broadcast lessons, as this aspect of their education can-' not be dealt with by correspondence. Yours etc., F . O. BURTT (Headmaster) . Shannon, Feb. 3.
