Modern Stud Farm In Levin
Situated aimost at the foot of the Arapaepa.e Hills and. about two miles from the heart of Levin is one of the most' picturesque and modern stud farms in New Zealand. It is the Glen Lyon stud, where the two imported stallions Bossier and Massowa are stabled. Altogether there are about 30 mares and 11 foals at Glen Lyon, but this number is increased during the season. Work begins at 5 a.m. for the stud groom. His first ^ob is to groom • the horses and when this is completed he divides them into separate paddocks which comprise the 156-acre farm. The spacious pastures are hecessary, for. they provide ahiple exercising space for the horses. The two stallions Massowa and Bossier were both 'imported from overseas at a high -cost. The former is an English-bred horse, although his pedigree traces back to French breeding. Bossier is.by the French sire Borisrossel. Among the mares at present at Glen Lyon are Underway, an Eng-lish-bred horse; a Lang Bian mare in, foal to Revelation; Dozie, a Broiefort mare, in foal to Probation ; "and Corner Girl, a Theio mare whose foal is by Bulan'dshar. Although it is not'yet completed, the Glen Lyon stud has all the modern amenities and appointments to rate it as one of the most up-to-date establishments of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
