Hawke's Bay defeated West Coast, first challengers this seasoil for the .Hawke Cup, by eight wickets, the match ending in the mid-afternoon of the second day. , In both strikes Coast could pro^vice only 265 runs against Bay's flrst, innings total of 251. As a re§ult, when Coast 's innings closed at 2.40 this afternoon, Bay required only 15 runs to ■secure an outrigh't win — a task which they did not achieve with out the loss of two wiekets. Goast only avoided an innings defeat after nine wiekets had fallen.-.
