HOROWHENUA RAM FAIR
Southdowns Sought ; Romney Sale Disappointing The Horowhenua A. and P. Association's annual ram fair was conducted; at Levin • yesterday by Messrs. Abrahain and Wiiliams, Ltd.; and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., in conjjUnction with • association ofncials. There, was a large attendance of buyers from all parts of the. area * between Palmerston North and Johnsonville, with diSr ; trict farmers very well represented. Over 350 rams were offered, comprislng 20.1 Southdowns and 179 Romneys. ,, , , The So.uthdowns on the whole came forward in excellent condi- . tion and met with keen competition throughout. It can be said that the Southdown yarding was of fairly' high standard and this was reflected byrihe high prices. which obtained. Very few pens sold be-. iow 8 gufneas, and the m.ajority yarded went at from 12 to 14 gum^Top price for this, section was 45 guineas for a stud ram from the flock of Mr. G. W- Munford (Shannon) , and it was purchased by Mr. L. L. Jensen (Manakau). Quite a number brought between 15 and 18 guineas. ,, The sale of Romneys on the other hand was disappointing, and except fcvr two lines, which marde ^over double figures, the majority of the sheep averaged betwen fiv and six guineas. . t The highest Romney price was 24 guineas for a ram sold to Mr. J. H. Mungavin (Levin) on- account oi Batchelar Bros. (Linton).
