AUCKLAND, Jan. 30. The tropical cyclone wliich was northeast of Lord Howe Island this morning and caused a wide area of disturhance. over the Tasman Sea, was centreu about 80 miles due east of'the island at 8 o'clock toniglit when it was travelling due south at between 15 and _ 20 miles an hour. All entrants in the Tasman yacht race experienced winds of gale force throughout tlie day. The dutv forecaster at the Auckland Weather Otlice tonight estimated that the yachts would encounter gales until about 3 o'clock tomorrow morning. It was anticipated tonight that the storm was likely to take a sliglitly south-suutk-east direction and eventually pass close to or over the southern end of the South Island.
