^ .Barbara Britton is one of those rare people in the film capital — a Hollywood star who was actually born and brought up in Southern California. The blonde actress was born at Long Beach. California, about 20 miles from Hollywood, on September 26,-1920. Her parents were none too pleased when their young . daughter decided at an early age to. become a dramatie teacher. Arguing with Barbara proved pretty much of a lost cause, however, and she was finally allowed to take theatre courses at the Polytechnic High School. Graduating to Long Beach" City College, she quickly became the leading light in collegiate dramatie circles, appearing in such plays as "Pride and Prejudice," "Autumn Crocus" and "The Old Maid." Entering a coritest to determine which thr.ee girls woUld ride .the Long Beach float in the 1940-41 Pasadena Tournament of Roses, won "for Barbara the avid attention of practically all the Hollywood studios. In January, 1941, she was signed to a term contract at Pkramount. Miss Britton, whose real name is Barbara Brantingham; was married oijt April 2, 1945, to Dr. Eugene Czukor, a prominent Hungarianborri nerve specialist. They recent^ ly purchased. a new 1'0-roomed house in Hollywood's Laurel Canyon, where they live. An ardent homemaker, Barbara^ pfefers • to do the housework herself. The couple spend much of their leisure time indoors. Barbara's favourite actres's. is Ingrid Bergman; her ideal masculine lead is the British actor James Mason.
