Quiet Holiday In Shannon

An overcast sky an'd some rain made conditions rather unsettled for planning any fixed entertainment for Anniversary Day in Shannon, with the result that the town was very quiet from mid-morning onwards. Th'e spirits of local racing enthusiasts were. not dampened, however, and Awapuni and Trentham shared their reward among the locals. Speedway' f ans, a sport which has gained mueh favour in Shannon, were catered for at Feilding, and a .number of cars went to that town for the grass track fixture. Those who preferred the cinder track journeyed to the Hutt Valley fixture last evening. Fight fans also went Petone way for the boxing. The midget car racing at Foxton Beach did not attract many from this town. Only two persons arrived to catch the bus, which eventually did not run. Some tennis and bowling was played, but on the whole conditions did not favour this type of sport.
