American Party To Study N.Z. Fish
AUCKLAND, Jan. 22. N fhe advance party of the Yale Uni-' ersity expgdition to New Zealand for ,ieep sea angling and fish research, arrived at Whenuapai by Pan-Americau Airways Skyinaster today. The ntenibers^vvere ALessrs E. C. Al'igdalski, taxidermist, and J. E. Alorrow, ichthyulogist. The leader of the expedition, Air Wendle W. Anderson, of Detroit, Alichigan, will arrive next Thursday by i-lipper with two more members of the party and others will follow later. Tlie party will fish from Air. Anderson 's 50ft. motor vacht Alanaua III, at the Bay of Islands, and Jhe i'.xpeditioit\t ' lieadquarters will be at Otehei Bay; Frupukapuka Island where Zane Grey's cainp. Was established. The boat. which arrived at Auckland oh " New Year's eve on tlie steainer Weybankj is equippeil with a radio telephone set- for communication with the shore and is especially litted for the research work which is being uudertaken by Yale ITniversity for the Peabody Aluseum. The expedition will study not only big game fish but also many other types of fish fouud in New Zealand waters including trout. Specimens will be pro served, mounted and taken back to tlie uuivers'ity when the expedition returns in Mareh. Afr. Anderson (ished in the Bay of Islaiuls in 1937 and during his visit he told Afr. G. llassall, of Otehei Bay, he would like -to return with v scientific party. The two men have been in communication, for some timi and Air. Hassall has niaiie arrangenienti in Xew Zealand for the expedition'visit.
