Unlikely Trentham Starters
(From
L. M.' M.)'.
WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. Rumour was current yesterday that Francese would not be a starter in the Metropolitan Handicap. No official announcement was available as to intention's of connections early this morning. Although she had not been officially scratched early this morning it is understood Blue Trout will not be a runner tomorrow. There is a rumour spreading that Spare Part will not start in the Wellington Racing Club Han.dieap. When questioned on the ;point the trainer said last nighi that it was news to him. He did not know the intentions of. the owner at the time, but he thought Spare Part would take his place in
the field. He was hopeful of getting the services of L. J. Ellis to ride his horse tomorrow. If such should be the case, then there is avery likelihood of Royal Tan being scratched. The Pagan will definitely start in the Meetropolitan Handicap, •having been scratched for his engagement at the Ashhurst meeting at Awapuni tomorrow. Howe shows slight improvement •from the injury suffered in the Wellington Cup and the continuance of his engagement in the Wellington R.C. Handicap depends on how he shapes in a trial run today.
