Volunteer Workers
ASSISTANCE OFFERED COUNCIL Speaking at a meeting of the Shannon Borough Council on Tuesday' evening,. Cr. B: Clayton made mention of the splendid spirit in which members of the public- were coming forward to do voluntary work in the borough. Cr. Clayton stated that Mr. R. Hayes had spent a considerable amount of time in making adjustments to the domain mower, which is now making a very good job in keeping the domain pldying field in order. Mr. K. Mitchell, of East Road, has made an offer to ; come into Shannon to demonstrate to the borough employee the correct procedure in pruning the various. trees and shrubs in the borough beautifying area. Mr. Mitchell's kind offer has been accepted by the council and he will make the demonstration at the correct time of the year. Another offer toward's the upkeep of the beautifying area has been made by Mr. A. Lee, who has a business at the top end of Plimmer Terrace, ■ he has offered to keep the beautifying area from the fire station to the Grey Street railway crossing in order. An offer has been made by Mr. J. Raper, of Vance Street, to assist tlxe council in keeping Vance Street tidy by cleaning up the street after the grader has been at work. Comment was also made by Cr. Clayton on the asslstance given .the'crews of boats in the recent srace by supplying milk, and gener,ally looking after their needs byi Mr. W. C. Higgie. Many councillors commented on the generosity of these citizens ! and the town clerk was directed to; write to them e^pressing the sin-i cere thanks of ihe council.
