To Decorate Americans
WASHINGTON, Jan. 16. Sir Carl Berendsen, Minister for New Zealand in Washington, announced today that eight American navy and marine offieers will be decorated on oehalf of his Government for distinguished war service. At the Legation tomorrow Sir Carl will present insignia as honorary Gommanders of the British Empire to (Uipt'ain Hdward H. Eldredge, of the naval air stalion, (diarleston, Rhoae Island; Navy Captain Cornelius a. Brinkinan,_ of Winchester, Massachusetts; and Marine Colonel Clayton C. Jerome, of Quantico, Virginia. At San Franeiseo on January 20 the Minister will confer the insignia of the Order of the Bath on Reai'- Admiral Ej'nest L. Gunther, of Menlo Fark, California. At Honolulu on January 24 he will confer the Order of the Bath on Marine GenerarRalph J. Mitchell, of aircraft headquarters, Fleet Marine Force, and of honorary Comiimn do i' of the British Empire on RearAdmiral Irving II. Mayfield, of Honolulu. The insignia as honorary Gommanders of the British Empire is being sent to Navy Captain James P. Oldmg, of -Reno, Nevada, and Commodore rhomas A. Durham, of Ban Diego, California.
