The Secretary of Htate, Mr. Marshall, dcni'ed today that the I'nited States contemplates the acquisition of military j bases or seeks a military advantage through the Marshall pian. ATr. Marshall 's denial was evoked by tlie publication in Europe of what the State Department termed a misquotation of reniarks by Afr. James Forrostal, Secretary of Defence, before the (Jongressional Committee. Senator Wilev had ohserved that the possible acquisition by the Hnited States of strategic bases "fits into the picture" of tho Marshall plan whereto Mr. Forrestal feplied: "I vvouldn 't quarrcl with your Lhesis. I am sure AI r. .Marshall will nave it in mind. "
