DUNEDIN, Jan. 16. One of the most important reports to come before the Renate of the University of New Zealand- — a report of a committee on medical education prepar ed after almost two years of investiga tion— caine before the senale todavr Tlie committee recomiuended that tlu Otago Rchool remain the only nationa! medical sehool and the majority of members favonred the appoiiittnent of a medical and -surgical tutor at -,each of the main centres to teach sixth-veai students. It was further recommended that tlie present quota system be con tinued and that ii> fixing tlie order oi priority for admission to the 120 places, consideration be given to education background, aeademie ability, laboratory skill and personal qualities. The committee was satisfied tliat tlie train ing given in the .Otago Afedical Sehool Was sound. • Tlie success of its gradu ates overseas indicates tliat its studenti were quite able to hold their own with similar students from British Universi ties. Afinority reports were presented by Mr. A. J. Johnstone Iv.C.-, Air. W H. Cocker and Sir Thomas Hunter. It was expected that the complete after noon session would be devoted to a dis, cussion of the report.
