DRIVING LESSON — AT SIXTY MILES AN HOUR
"I am teaching my daughter to drive," said the owner of a car stopped recentlv bv Traffic Inspector M. Kehoe. The ihspector, however, pointed out that 60 m.p.h. through heavy race traffic was neither the speed nor the place for driving lessons. These facts were related in the Magistrate's Court, Levin) yesterday, when Ruth Wallace, of Palmerston North, was charged with driving in a dangerous manner and with having no driver's licenee. Ihspector Kehoe told the court that in the vicinity of Te Horo he had seen defendant's vehicle travelling south at a high speed. It had overtak^n seven cars in succession, pullirig in and out of the line of race traffic each time. HeJhad checked its speed at over 60 m.p.h. "I told him," said Mr. Kehoe, "that the department did not appreciate learners being. taught . in that manner." A fine of £4 on the first charge and £1 10s on the second was imposed by Mr. A: M. Goulding, S.M. Court costs totalled £1 2s.
