FOOD PROSPECTS IMPROVE IN POLAND
The' Polish Premier, M. , Jozef Cyrankiewicz, told Parliament that food prospects "should not arouse anxiety." By the end of December, 300,000 tons of graiii from Russia's current harvest would have arrived in Poland, he said. The Food Supply Fund, through State and licensed co-operative and private purchases, was able to purchase 12 per cent. more cereals from the countryside than had been plamied. The lowering of flour extraction percentages to 80 per cent. for rye, 70 per cent. for wheat and 65 per cent. for barley had improved the quality of products and provided fodder for livestock. The 1947-48 sowing plan had been fully carried out. The Government was also fighting for the cultivation of all waste land. "Poland," he said, "is now producing her own tractors, of which about 8000 a're already in use. We .have imported more than 40,000 horses and are organising 'neighbourly aid' in agriculture. We are planning the eleetrification of 1200 rural villages."
